BIO

I am Carolina López Nicolás, Full Professor in the Department of Management and Finance at the University of Murcia. I have been visiting professor at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) and Michigan State University (USA). I studied Business Administration at the University of Murcia and BA Accounting and Finance in Europe at Manchester Metropolitan University. The Doctoral Thesis received the qualification of outstanding cum laudem unanimously and, in addition, the distinction of European doctorate.
My research activity has a clear international focus by working with teams from several countries. In addition, I have actively and continuously participated in 9 research projects, all of them obtained through competitive calls and funded by national (Ministry of Science and Innovation) and European (European Social Fund, European Commission) public entities. In addition, I was awarded three research sections (national sexenios). My academic work has been complemented with the transfer of knowledge to the productive sector through various articles, books, courses and conferences. I have been a member of various international organizations (IIIS, AMA, EMAC), a reviewer of several international scientific journals and an evaluator of papers for different congresses.
As a lecturer, I teach subjects in different undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, in English and Spanish, both at the University of Murcia and other European universities. I coordinate the Teaching Innovation Group in Business Economics where several professors develop educational projects of gamification, active and innovative methodologies in our classes.
In addition to my dedication to the areas of research and teaching that I expand on below, my management experience has followed a growing trend in recent years. I am a member of various governing bodies in several faculties of the University of Murcia, and coordinator of several official masters. Since 2022, I am the coordinator of long-life learning in the Vice-Rectorate of Continuing Education at the University of Murcia. I am also a tutor of Erasmus students in the Faculty of Economics and Business exchanges with several European universities. I have actively participated in the organizing committee of several conferences (ACEDE 2004, MSKE 2009 and 2011).

Research areas

My research interests relate to knowledge management, strategy, technological innovation, information systems, e-business, mobile technologies and business models.

On these topics, I have published in leading scientific journals such as Information & Management, Journal of Knowledge Management, Service Industries Journal, International Journal of Information Management, European Management Journal, among others. I have presented more than 80 papers at the most important national and international congresses in the area of business administration and information systems. The quality of the papers presented at these conferences has been recognized on several occasions by being winner and finalist of various awards.

Teaching areas

Since 2002 I have taught business administration, organizational design, information systems and e-business in different faculties of the University of Murcia. In all cases, I have obtained a positive evaluation close to the maximum score.

After obtaining my PhD degree in 2007, I teach postgraduate courses at the University of Murcia in scientific Masters (such as the Master in Business Sciences, quality mention from ANECA) and professional (Master in Business Administration and Management MBA, Master in Bioinformatics, Master in Digital and Analytical Marketing). I have also taught postgraduate courses in European universities such as Delft University of Technology and the University of Glasgow. I have participated in several educational innovation projects and taught in English and Spanish at the University of Murcia. I have supervised more than 40 Master’s thesis and final projects.
